Epictetus had a definition of wealth that no bank would accept. Wealth is not having many possessions. It’s having few wants.
There are two ways to close the gap between what you have and what you want. Earn more, or want less. Everyone works on the first. Almost no one works on the second.
And the first has a problem. The gap moves. The raise becomes the baseline. The bigger apartment feels normal within a month. The finish line moves every time you approach it.
Wanting less isn’t deprivation. Every want you drop makes you richer without earning a cent.
